What board width to choose: 7.5″, 7.75″ or 8″

Deck width changes how the board handles. The Complete Wordart 7.5″ feels lightest underfoot, which helps younger riders and smaller frames. 7.75″, with the Complete Monster and the Complete Memphis, is the most versatile format: wide enough not to feel cramped, narrow enough to stay technical. The Complete Geo 8″ gives more room to stand on, useful when riding fast or aiming for bigger modules. The shoe-size-to-width charts you see everywhere, 40 for the 7.75″ or 42 for the 8″, are rough guides and nothing more: given the same shoe size, two riders won't necessarily pick the same board.

Getting started with street skating

No skatepark needed to get going: a car park, a wide pavement or a square will do. The first sessions go on pushing off and stopping cleanly, before you even think about the ollie. A street board is built for that kind of ground, unlike a cruiser, which is meant for covering distance at an easy pace.

Complete board: the obvious choice to start with

A complete board comes out of the box already assembled: deck, trucks, wheels, bearings and grip fitted and set up. No decisions to make about wheel hardness or truck brands before you ride. The four models in this collection are designed in Soorts-Hossegor and sold at 79.95 €. To understand how a board is built and what to check before buying, our beginner skateboard buying guide goes into the detail, and the protective gear and safety guide covers the kit.

Frequently asked questions

What size skateboard to start with?

7.5″ and 7.75″ suit most beginners, children included: lighter, easier to flick round. 8″ makes sense once you have bigger feet or want stability straight away.

Is a street board any good for riding around town day to day?

For short trips and street furniture, yes. Over long distances and rough tarmac, a cruiser stays more comfortable.

Complete or built piece by piece, what's the difference?

A complete board like these arrives ready, nothing to assemble. Picking parts one by one becomes worthwhile once you already know what you want to change, which is rarely the case on a first skateboard.
